About the invention
THE GLOVE TODAY The first Football Tech Gloves project has reached production and is 100% complete. Each glove uses an NFC chip to connect athletes with useful digital football experiences. Players can buy the gloves now and use the Football Tech training companion. THE TRAINING COMPANION Built around Taj's goal of helping kids who are new to football learn and train, the companion acts like a coach. It introduces young athletes to the sport and guides them through training at their level of play. Taj and his dad built on his dad's existing football system to bring the experience to life. WHAT COMES NEXT Versions 2.0 and 3.0 return to Taj's larger smart-glove vision. The next step is a light-up glove that flashes briefly when it detects a catch or blocking impact. The team has already tested the concept using the same impact lights found in light-up shoes. Visitors can try the concept preview below and share feedback to help shape the next version.
The spark · where the idea came from
“Taj and his dad were already working with David Gilbert to develop a football glove when Taj asked: what if the glove could be smarter? His first vision used pressure sensors and an Arduino microcontroller to count catches and drops and measure impact time — information that could help with performance and recruiting. His dad explained that they had to start small, so they began with NFC chips and explored what could be built within that technology. From there, they focused on helping kids like Taj who did not already play football learn and train. Using his dad's existing football system as the foundation, they created an AI training companion that acts like a coach and guides players at their own level. The first project is now complete, and Taj and Dad are moving toward versions 2.0 and 3.0 — beginning with a glove that lights up after a catch or impact.”
